and can you blame them? for the most part, organized religions suck! i think a lot of the reason for this is because they haven't been updated for, like, centuries; so a lot of the old 'rules' just aren't realistic for today's world. not to mention that they tend to be dogmatic, paternalistic and self-serving... and really don't make people feel very good about themselves or about other people. what's the point of being involved with something like that? and i'm sorry, but i think that a lot of what gets taught under the guise of 'religion' is really just plain old intolerance and hate—cloaked as the 'word' and 'will' of [insert name of deity here].

um... thanks but no thanks.

so now i have my own ministry: i'm an ordained minister in the universal life church. actually it's not much of a ministry in that i have no congregation and i don't preach anything except the single tenet of the universal life church: do only that which is right. that's it. and unlike other religions, i won't presume to tell you what 'that' is! you have to decide for yourself (of course, i'll be happy to give you my $0.02 if you really want to know; feel free to drop me an email).

as a legally ordained minister, i can perform:
– weddings
– funerals
– baptisms
– other functions of the clergy

why settle for an officiant from city hall or the traditional clergy when you can have a modern, progressive cleric perform your ceremony with style, sensibility and a dose of rational humanism?

in addition, i am happy offer my services as an officiant for important life events that may not recognized by the state, such as:
– affirmation of love ceremonies
– renewals of marriage vows
– alternative lifestyle unions
– divorce/separation rituals
– ??? let me know what you're thinking about and we can discuss

i can wear traditional clerical vestments, formal wear, casual clothing, costume or any other specific attire appropriate for the occasion and location. my rate starts at $50 and includes a certificate to commemorate the ceremony (suitable for framing, of course!). for more information, send an email to jkmarz (at) gmail (dot) com. be sure to tell me the date, time, location and nature of your event.
